As an obstetrician and gynecologist in Tokyo, I have witnessed firsthand how women’s health needs evolve throughout their lives. Today, I want to share three important observations from my practice:
1. The Rise of Late Pregnancies
In recent years, Japan has seen an increasing number of women choosing to have children later in life. While this is often a positive choice for career and personal growth, it does bring certain medical risks. Early and regular check-ups are essential to ensure both mother and baby remain healthy.
2. The Importance of Mental Well-Being During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is not just a physical journey—it is an emotional one as well. Many expectant mothers experience anxiety or uncertainty. A supportive care environment, including open communication and mental health resources, can make a world of difference.
3. Menopause Is Not the End—It’s a Transition
In Japan, menopause is often discussed quietly, sometimes even avoided. Yet, with proper medical guidance, lifestyle changes, and emotional support, women can navigate this stage with confidence and vitality.
My role as a doctor is not only to provide medical solutions but also to be a source of trust and encouragement for every woman I care for.
