Increasing Prevalence of Digital Eye Strain With the rise of digital device usage worldwide, many patients suffer from “digital eye strain” or computer vision syndrome. Symptoms include dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches, and eye fatigue. As screens become more integral to daily life—especially with remote work and online learning—public awareness about proper eye care and regular breaks is essential to prevent long-term damage. Importance of Early Detection in Preventing Vision Loss Many serious eye conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration develop silently without obvious symptoms in early stages. Early screening and timely treatment are critical to preserving vision. This highlights the need for regular eye check-ups, especially for people with risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure, or family history of eye diseases. A Challenging Case: Saving Vision Through Quick Intervention I once treated a patient who came with sudden vision loss caused by retinal detachment. Thanks to prompt diagnosis and emergency surgery, we managed to save most of their vision. This case underscored how crucial it is for both patients and healthcare providers to recognize urgent eye symptoms—such as flashes of light, floaters, or a shadow in the visual field—and act immediately.
